Real Yoga - Beyond the Asana

I am often asked questions about my personal yoga experience. How long have I been practicing and teaching yoga or why. At this point it seems like all my life.

We all have our own unique path and way of getting to the point where the yoga is no longer all about the workout (an awesome perk!) but is about helping to support a rich and truthful life experience.

I have such a passion and belief, my absolute truth, that this practice can heal the body and spirit and assist in removing suffering on so many levels.

Many years ago, in the prime of my love for the physical practice of yoga, while jogging I witnessed a tragic accident resulting in the death of an 18 month old child. My involvement went beyond witness as I administered CPR to this beautiful little girl and placed myself right in the middle of more grief and pain than I can possibly express.

As the following year unfolded, I became increasingly introverted. I spent time with my family and went to yoga. I actually just "showed up" for yoga. That is when it all began to unfold. No expectations, no goals, just there in the moment seeking a space to just "be".

Day after day. Always yoga. The class, the teacher, didn't matter. It was me on my mat and nothing else. As long as there was quiet space, I was okay. Over time, the real thing happened. Real yoga. The internal stuff we hear about.

Now years later, through self-study, formal education and much time on the mat, I have a better understanding of the principles, history and philosophy of the practice that support my real life experience.

It is my deepest intention, to provide the knowledge and quiet space for people to heal, grow and find joy through yoga.

Yoga Teacher Training Coming in January

I am excited to announce that we will be conducting a 200 hour teacher training at Mindful Motion Yoga this coming January. Our training program meets all Yoga Alliance requirements and will be a great opportunity for individuals to grow their yoga practice. It is designed to build a strong foundation in all aspects of the basics of yoga from the physical, to the mental and spiritual.

In addition to offering a comprehensive training in yoga, it is our intention to grow a compassionate and accepting yoga community. Believing that every spirit has a gift, a light, to share. We offer yoga as a path to sharing this light.

As in our studio classes, we will share our knowledge with you in a safe, supportive environment. It is our intention to encourage your unique and personal journey in yoga. Whether you are a seeking a greater depth of knowledge for personal growth or interested in becoming a yoga professional, we invite you to come and grow with us.

In the spirit of compassion, we have attractively priced our training in addition to offering a payment plan option and built flex-time into the schedule to accomodate your real-life situation. Ask us about your unique situation.

Message from Christina

To my Mindful Motion Yoga family,

Wow - what more can I say than - wow! I was completely blown away by the support and participation of both the Friday night yoga class and Social and the Walk on Saturday morning. I am so touched to be honored by Terri and her beautiful studio and by all of you. The energy in our packed Friday night yoga class was incredible (a lot of it nervous energy for me at the start - ha-ha). But, it was truly a presence that filled the room. And, at that moment in time, we were all woven together to create some powerful prana!

Your kindness and loving generosity touched my heart and soul beyond words. It is a gift for me to be there teaching yoga - and the thought of all of you coming to share in that gift makes me smile really big - even now as I think about it!

The walk on Saturday was so much fun - family and friends all coming together to take a walk along our beautiful backyard called the beach! The view was breathtaking and the camaraderie and conversations were perfect! The community that Mindful Motion Yoga has created is a strong tight-knit "family" with hearts as big as the ocean! I might have been the initial inspiration behind the gathering of this team - but, it became much larger than that. We have bonded together and gained friendship, strength and courage from each other. I look forward to continuing this journey with all of you as we travel onto the paths of our individual lives. How they intersect is what makes all of this so special and amazing!

Your support of me and all those who have been touched by breast cancer is astounding. Awareness and support for all those affected is key. I would like to send a loving, thankful, mindful hug to all of you who were able to come and share - and to those of you who weren't. It was an amazing couple of days that will forever stay in my memory! Thank you for everything - You all heal me!

Love and namaste,
Christina

Anita Nall-Richesson

My youngest daughter swims with a great group of coaches and kids at her elementary school in Jacksonville. As a part of this group, she was invited to attend a presentation on nutrition by Olympic Gold Medalist and former world record holder (200 breast at 15 years of age!), Anita Nall Richesson.

Anita has a compelling story of the importance of nutrition and the impact proper nutrition has had in her life. In addition to being a mother of two she has continued her career by working with in the field of nutrition and is the current team nutritionist for the Jacksonville Jaguars. We enjoyed her kind and encouraging delivery and left with a renewed commitment to simplifying our diets.

As a yoga teacher I believe in the importance of how we care for our bodies. The importance of strengthening, stretching, and moving, as well as the importance of what we put into these machines. Ironically, it is often the busy schedules that come with these healthy activities (lots of yoga, swimming, equestrian events) that results in eating convenient, processed foods. The busier the schedule, the greater the temptation to consume processed foods.

Lately I have been guilty of serving more processed foods than I would like to admit. However, after Anita's presentation, my family discussed our commitment to good health and decided to return to eating only whole foods. I'll keep you posted. (Already missing Diet Coke)

Yoga for Tennis

I love tennis. I love sound of a new can of balls being opened and the smell of the felt and rubber. I love the sound that comes from a perfectly hit ball. When I step onto a tennis court I am flooded with memories of my childhood in Texas. My dear friend, Janice, and I spent a great deal of our youth on the court. Laughing, planning and dreaming.

Many years later, I still love playing tennis, watching tennis and experiencing the joy of a new can of balls. This week I am bringing together my love for tennis with my passion for yoga. Monday, August 31, marks the beginning of our yoga series specifically designed for tennis players. We will address the demands tennis places on the physical body as well as addressing how to strengthen the oh-so-important mental game.
